The heritage and history of Newcastle has been carefully translated to reflect the future.
Soul sits neatly amongst original buildings, creating a seamless view from the street. The ways in which this is achieved shows an obvious consideration for how the city can continue to marry the old and the new in its rejuvenation. Both contemporary and classical architecture are referenced in the exterior, through its use of distinctly modern lines paired with details that create intricacy and depth.
Soul elegantly reflects the ever-present dualities of the area in its design; the old and the new as well as the coastal and residential. Carefully considering its place in the Newcastle skyline, original heritage features are highlighted where possible to fit seamlessly amongst original terrace residences below. The contrasting modern windows that let ample light into open plan residences is contrasted in the use of a warm mid-century brick. This layered brickwork mimics the features expected of a heritage building in a playfully contemporary way.
A seamless blend of the old and new.
Awaken your senses and reconnect in a new lifestyle destination. Lyrique reimagines Newcastle’s enduring appeal, manifesting the city’s natural harmonies; the old and the new, the coastline and the city. A catalyst for transformation, Lyrique sets the standard, blending 21st Century architecture with contemporary design.
Located at the site of Newcastle’s Lyrique theatre, the building embraces original features and translates them for a contemporary lifestyle. In line with the city’s overall rejuvenation, the project shows an appreciation for the heritage and history of Newcastle and how this can be reimagined. Along with showing a respect for the past, highlighting these features allows for Lyrique to be a part of an established story moving into Newcastle’s future.
